New intrigue of the authorities about the alleged connection of the Azerbaijani opposition with Gulen supporters, continuing arrests of political activists, and Azerbaijan’s relations with Western countries are the main themes of the press.
The official newspaper Azerbaijan published an article entitled Azerbaijan to Provide Outlet to Persian Gulf, which speaks of the importance of the Baku meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia and the transport project North-South.
The author writes that the project, as well as the project of the Southern Gas Corridor, will provide Azerbaijan stability and prosperity, as well as make it an important partner in the region.

Echo publishes an article about the level of social welfare, where it is said that only 12% of the citizens belong to the middle class. The growth of this category of persons is very slow.
Prior to the first devaluation of the manat in February last year, the middle class was significantly higher - 20%, the expert Nariman Agayev says. It means the class of people who have an apartment, a vehicle, and a monthly income of AZN 1,000 per family member.
The annual income of such a family is 48 thousand manats.
The expert considers rich those whose income exceeds 100 thousand manats, which is 3% of the population.

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
