Prosecutor proposed to sentence former political emigrant to 7.5 years of imprisonment
Baku/06.01.23/Turan: During the trial of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) activist Jafar Mirzoev at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes the state prosecutor proposed to sentence the accused to 7.5 years of imprisonment for drug trafficking.
The trial will continue on 13 January.
* Jafar Mirzoev is one of five activists arrested after being expelled from Germany last autumn. They were all charged with drug trafficking. Two other activists were arrested on other charges. All were declared political prisoners by human rights activists.
However, the real reason for these arrests was the involvement of political activists in protests in Europe demanding the release of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
Recall that Mirzoev was expelled from Germany on 25 November 2021 and arrested in Baku on 27 January. He is charged under Article 234.4.3 (drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code. -16B-
