Provocation against the National Council
Baku/20.01.18/Turan: An incident occurred when the representatives of the Nationl Coucil of Democratic Forces (NCDF) visited the Alley of Martyrs on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the occupation by the Soviet troops of Baku.
The police which concentrated on the Prospect of Parliament leading to the Alley of Martyrs, the police, for more than an hour did not let the leadership of the National Council, which united in its ranks various opposition parties.
These actions of policemen caused discontent of the supporters of the National Council. Chairman of the People's Front Party Ali Kerimli called the alleged obstacles "political disgust".
"Today, before the eyes of all Azerbaijan, the authorities demonstrated their anti-national essence. The way of thousands of people was blocked, they stoof in the cold wind and they were not given the opportunity to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for independence. Those who distribute the Order of Independence to its opponents sent telegrams calling the Soviet troops in Baku when we stood on the barricades in the 90s and continue to carry out an anti-national policy today," Ali Kerimli said.
Ali Kerimli severely criticized the authorities, stressing that deserters who fled when the motherland was threatened, have now usurped power.
"And now, in this cold weather, they torture people, demonstrating with each of their actions their anti-nationalism, obstructing our pilgrimage, tormenting us for several hours. But we believe that we just stood before the "Russian Empire for an extra two hours," Ali Kerimli said.
"Those who set up the police here want a confrontation between us. All their thoughts are the unscrupulous looting of the country, creating a confrontation between those who love their country," said Ali Kerimli.
Kerimli's speech was repeatedly interrupted by the slogans: "The martyrs are immortal, Homeland is indivisible!" Some time after his speech, representatives of the National Council were given the opportunity to visit the Alley of martyrs.
High-ranking police did not comment on the reasons for the fact that for more than an hour representatives of the National Council could not visit the Alley of Martyrs. Ordinary policemen explained journalists that they executed orders given to them.-0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
