Rotavirus Caused Poisoning of Children in Sumgait
Baku / 12.06.17 / Turan: In the course of laboratory studies it was revealed that the mass poisoning of children in Sumgait and a number of settlements of the Apsheron district was caused by Rotavirus. In recent days, 136 children have been detected this virus, Turan was told in the press service of the Ministry of Health.
Currently, 46 children continue to stay in inpatient care at Sumgait Children"s Hospital. Their health status is assessed as satisfactory and they will be sent home soon.
Medical and preventive measures are carried out in the territory where the infection occurred, and sanitary and educational measures are taken among the population.
The infection came from drinking water. However, at present the water quality meets the standards, the same source said.
However, it is not clear how the virus appeared in the water. All sources of drinking water are special-regime enterprises, where protection measures are observed, and water is always strictly checked before being supplied to the population.
To date, the virus has not been detected in water sources. How it got into the supply system the authorities do not say.
* The virus most often enters the body together with contaminated food or raw water. The virus tolerates low temperatures well, and for a long period of time it can maintain its viability in the refrigerator.
Also, infection by airborne droplets is possible. Like the classic flu, intestinal flu is accompanied by an inflammation of the respiratory tract.
You can get infected with rotavirus anywhere. As a rule, this takes place in areas of large concentrations of people: in kindergartens, schools, offices, public transport, etc.
The source of infection is a patient or a virus carrier. The disease is transmitted only from person to person. -06D--

November 8 is celebrated as Victory Day in Azerbaijan. In 2020, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity through a 44-day war and a one-day military operation in 2023. Although a ceasefire declaration was signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan has yet to be signed, even four years later.
