The 2021/2022 academic year will be organized in a traditional way
Baku/08.09.21/Turan: The 2021/2022 academic year will be organized in the traditional form, Education Minister Emin Amrullayev announced on September 7. He said that on September 22, primary school students, and from September 29, high school students and students of higher educational institutions will begin their education in the traditional form. This means that a significant part of the 44,861 people who became students this year will go to Baku.
Where will the visiting students live in Baku? Are there student dormitories? A third-year student of the Azerbaijan State Economic University L. Agayeva told Radio Azadlig that although the university where she studies has a hostel, IDPs are accommodated there. “When I entered the university, I inquired about the hostel, they told me that internally displaced persons remained there. Therefore, we had to rent an apartment with 3 other girls. I paid 120 manats a month. "
According to her, due to distance learning, she was in her area. “This year I have to come to Baku again and look for housing. Rental prices have increased. How it will be, I do not know."
Ahmed Suleymanov, who is engaged in real estate activities in Baku, told Turan that, despite the large number of people willing to rent housing, apartment owners are in no hurry to rent out their property to students. “The demand is great, but there are few offers. Homeowners fear that, like last year, universities will close in a month and students will return to their homes. Few people are ready to rent their own homes in this uncertain situation. Landlords prefer families."
According to the Ministry of Education, 48 hostels are currently subordinate to higher educational institutions. “These buildings are owned by 9 universities. These are the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Baku Engineering University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Baku State University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Baku Slavic University, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Azerbaijan Technological University. These hostels are able to provide housing for a small part of their students."
The department noted that the student dormitory of Baku State University has been overhauled and is ready to be provided to students. "The 5-storey" student house "for 220 places is intended for both foreign and local students. The student dormitory of the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry for 1000 people is also ready for operation."
Education expert Kamran Asadov said that currently there is no opportunity in Azerbaijan to provide all students with a hostel. “Only a few universities have hostels; it only covers 0.7 percent of the total student population."
According to the expert, the only way out in such a situation is to rent housing. “But in the era of a pandemic, this is quite risky and dangerous. Because in most cases several people remain in the same house. "
He believes that the state should buy several floors of high-rise buildings and organize hostels in them. “Thus, students can solve the problem of renting an apartment.” - 0 -
