The court refused to transfer the trade union activist to house arrest
Baku/03.10.23/Turan: Today, the Khatai District Court dismissed the petition for the transfer of the head of the independent confederation of trade unions "Working Platform" Afiyaddin Mammadov under house arrest. The defense will appeal against this decision.
Mammadov was detained on September 20 near his home, after he was attacked by a man unknown to him. However, Mammadov was also accused of stabbing him. On the evening of November 21, the Khatai District Court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest against him.
Mammadov has been charged under the Article 221.3 (hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon or an object used as a weapon) and 126.1 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, under which he faces up to 8 years in prison. Mammadov denied the charges and linked them to his public and trade union activities. ---06B---

Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
