The fate of students of the closed Turkish lyceums remains unclear
Parents of pupils Turkish schools require to eliminate the decision to close them, and allow their children to finish the school year.
This demand was made during today's action by parents in front of the Baku private Turkish Lyceum (near the Hospital N5.) From there they will go to the Ministry of Education, Turan was told by one of parents.
Total 11 schools where thousand students studied were closed. After closing of the Turkish schools, only 300 students enrolled in other schools.
The problem is that the training in the Turkish lyceums was in English, and the program was different than in ordinary schools.
On the other hand, tuition fees in Turkish high schools was less than in the private schools of Azerbaijan studying in English.
Therefore, parents call on the government to resume the work of lyceums, and allow their children to finish schools.
The Turkish schools were part of the educational network "Chag Oyretim" ("Modern Education") associated with Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish theologian who is in exile in the United States. At the end of last year, Gulen had problems with the Turkish government.
After that, according to unofficial reports from Baku, Ankara demanded from Baku to close "nursists" lycées. A year before the lyceums were transferred to the jurisdiction of SOCAR, which decided to close the schools on the completion of the 2013-2014 school year.
Once again, for the sake of the political situation, the authorities have ignored the fate of thousands families.—06B-
