International Fund to Protect Human Rights Defenders, Front Line Defenders , launched a campaign "Human Rights Defenders Euro 2012" in defense of imprisoned human rights defendershttp://www.sportshrd.org/index.html
The campaign is timed for the European Championships – 2012, and its organizers rely on the support of the international community to release human rights defenders.
The keynote of the campaign is an appeal of the Nobel laureate, Nelson Mandela: "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire ... Sport can awaken hope there, where previously there was only despair."
Front Line Defenders has created a virtual football field, at which symbolically are 11 players, and under each of them is the name of one of the imprisoned human rights defenders.
