Zahir Amanov released from custody
Baku/14.04.22/Turan: On Friday the police released Zahir Amanov, the founder and editor of the regional news website "Cenub.az", detained on 13 April.
A preventive measure was chosen for him in the form of transfer under the supervision of the police, and he will be free during the investigation. This was announced by lawyer Elchin Sadygov.
According to him, Amanov does not plead guilty. The defense will insist on the termination of the criminal case.
Recall that Amanov was detained on the complaint of Israfil Aliyev, head of the administration of the village of Sygdash, Masalli region.
According to the police, Amanov allegedly blackmailed Israfil Aliyev by threatening to publish compromising material. Police say Amanov was detained while receiving a bribe of 1,500 manats. The case was opened under Article 182.1 (extortion by threatening) of the Criminal Code.
However, prominent members of the media community questioned the credibility of the charge against the experienced journalist known for his active civil stance. They appealed to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to ensure an objective investigation and let Amanov stay free during the investigation. -06В-
