Address from Rafiga Mirkadyrova, mother of the honored journalist of Azerbaijan Rauf Mirkadyrov
To the authorities and the public of Azerbaijan from Rafiga Mirkadyrova, mother of the honored journalist of Azerbaijan Rauf Mirkadyrov.
Address
For about two years my son, honored journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov has been under arrest on charges of serious crimes. On these days, at last, his trial is scheduled to start.
It is a shame for Azerbaijan that an intelligent patriot, who has devoted his life to writing, is branded as a "traitor."
I appeal to every honest citizen of Azerbaijan with a request to take part in the fate of my son - one of the leading representatives of the Russian-speaking media in the country.
The winner of numerous journalism awards, he inscribed his name in the history of journalism, spending his intelligence to strengthen our statehood. So Rauf Mirkadyrov cannot be a traitor to the motherland, moreover for money.
Rauf refused the money he was offered here, and no amount of money could make him change, become more important than belief, more valuable than his personality.
This humiliation of an intellectual can be advantageous only to the enemies of our state and nation.
I beg you, say "no" to this slander and blackening. Rauf's arrest on such charges will remain a black spot in the history of Azerbaijan.
As a mother, I beg you, do not leave me in tears, do not let the historic injustice take place, do not close your eyes to this great sin before God!

The preliminary report into the late December crash of an Azerbaijani passenger jet in Kazakhstan is a masterwork in delicate diplomacy, breaking no new ground in assigning responsibility for the tragedy, yet appearing to confirm that the plane was accidentally shot down by Russian air defenses without explicitly saying so. As such, the Kazakh-produced report has avoided, at least initially, provoking the ire of either Russia or Azerbaijan.
