Features of National Mentality
For several years, Azerbaijani officials of various ranks and caliber competed in what deserves punishment for Zhirinovsky who regularly insulted and humiliated us.
At the same time, a special zeal was demonstrated by representatives of official circles or "public figures" working for them.
The punishment was presumed in a wide range: from cutting an ear to announcing Zhirinovsky persona non grata (at least), from protesting the official Moscow to filing a lawsuit. The latter, incidentally, was made, but by representatives of the Azeri Diaspora in Russia and not in Azerbaijan.
And what happened? ...
This man, who publicly and regularly insulted us, was received with honors in Baku on the highest level!
I would like to ask the gracious host: did you agree with statements by Zhirinovsky, or did he apologize to you?
The insatiable desire to buy one and all, pay and win medals, pay to recognize elections as democratic, and pay and turn Zhirinovsky from an enemy into a friend proves specific symptoms.
It is unlikely that these features are typical unhealthy for all of us, but today they are attributed to all of us.
This disease deepens its latest manifestation - cancellation of the concert by Andrei Makarevich in Baku.
Just think, this musician was not afraid to raise his voice against the aggression of the Kremlin in the Crimea, and now in the East of Ukraine. In other words, he spoke in defense of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Is this topic close to us? It seems not to be. Zhirinovsky many times publicly shouted that Nagorno-Karabakh belongs to Armenia and is a historical Armenian land, and the Azeris are aggressors, occupiers and sheep.
Therefore, he was invited and honorably accepted, and Makarevich was denied.
Still, it is true that we have a special national mentality and no one can decree anything to us.
By the way, about the mentality: the famous Turkish satirist Aziz Nesin once said that 40 percent of Turks are stupid. After that, he faced accusations and demands for an apology. On this the satirist said he was ready to apologize and said, I admit that 60 percent of Turks are smart.
I wonder what this satirist would say about us…

I have always put the names of agencies, institutions, and enterprises in quotation marks, but I never did so for Turan. Whenever I saw Turan in quotation marks in texts, I removed them.

The preliminary report into the late December crash of an Azerbaijani passenger jet in Kazakhstan is a masterwork in delicate diplomacy, breaking no new ground in assigning responsibility for the tragedy, yet appearing to confirm that the plane was accidentally shot down by Russian air defenses without explicitly saying so. As such, the Kazakh-produced report has avoided, at least initially, provoking the ire of either Russia or Azerbaijan.
