Vandalism against Monument to Nizami in Derbent
Last night in the Dagestan town of Derbent, which is near the northern border of Azerbaijan, a monument to the Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami was set on fire.
The city park, where the monument is located, is being renovated and the statue was covered with a white cloth. Vandals set fire to it and burned the monument. Turan learned from the inhabitants.
Prior to that, the monument was painted and one of its fingers was broken. This vandalism has already been reported.
Azerbaijani public is concerned about what is happening and blames the leadership of Derbent, which does not take measures to protect the monument.
Recently, a monument to another Azerbaijani, Hero of the Soviet Union Shamsul Aliyev was destroyed.
Derbent public is outraged by these facts and intends to hold a protest rally, said the same sources. -02D-
