Another hunt for Iranian agents?
Baku/02.02.23/Turan: Amid the tension that arose after the incident at the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan again began searching for the "Iranian spy network" and announced the detention of 39 more people as a result of a special operation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the information disseminated by the ministry, the detainees carried out subversive and subversive actions in Azerbaijan under the guise of religion. It is also reported that these individuals, posing as religious figures, conducting propaganda in favor of Iran on social networks and abusing freedom of religion in our country, carried out the tasks of the Iranian special services to undermine the traditions of tolerance that have developed in Azerbaijan.
Using the attributes of Iran, as well as black flags with various inscriptions in Persian, at religious ceremonies with the participation of Azerbaijani citizens and on social networks, to discriminate on the basis of religion and incite interreligious hatred, these persons destabilized society and transferred the collected information to special services, from which they received tasks", the message says.
The security expert Ilham Ismail comments on the current situation in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to him, if we look at the retrospective of the activities of our special services, we will find only individual cases of identifying and exposing agents of Russia or Armenia. But there are plenty of cases of mass detection of the Iranian intelligence network.
“The presence of a large-scale Iranian spy network is not new. Back in the days of the Shah of Iran, there was SAVAK (Sazman-e Ettela'at va Amniyat-e Keshvar - the Information and Security Service of the country), under which there was a political intelligence service created by the Ministry of Information. Its main task was to create an agent network in foreign countries. For this purpose, people who were authoritative from a military and political point of view were recruited,” Ismail said.
As for the activities of the Iranian secret services in relation to Azerbaijan, in his opinion, a wide agent network of ideological and political orientation was created in our country to export the Islamic revolution.
“The task has been set to create prerequisites for religious figures to come to power in Azerbaijan in the future and change the political system. This is their goal,” the expert emphasized, noting that he sees nothing surprising in the existence of such an extensive agency in the country.
Surprising in his opinion is that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is engaged in the identification and liquidation of the Iranian intelligence network.
"Why the Ministry of Internal Affairs? The fight against espionage and foreign agents is the sphere of activity of the State Security Service. This is not the specifics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This is a mystery for me,” says Ilham Ismail. –0—
