Entrepreneurs who are in a business alliance with officials will sooner or later be repressed, expert believes

Baku/14.04.21/Turan: “In a country with bureaucratic entrepreneurship, a monopoly, the business ofentrepreneurs is certainly  taken away”  economist and entrepreneur Nazim Baydamirli, told on April 13 to  the “Difficult Question” program on the topic “About those who in Azerbaijan takes  away business”.

In recent days, there have been reports in the media that the ruling circles in Azerbaijan are taking away their businesses from entrepreneurs. Ilgar Ismayilov, the former owner of the Ideal  net of stores, who is currently under trial, claims that he was arrested for revealing the truth about the people who took his “Ideal” away from him. He was punished for complaining to state authorities and arrested to silence him. He accuses the head of AZAL CJSC Jahangir Askerov of his arrest and seizure of his business.

A recent interview with Ilgar Hajiyev, the founder of another large holding in Azerbaijan - the AKKORD GROUP of companies, is also one of the topics discussed in recent days.In an interview, Ilgar Hajiyev said that in 2008 his company was estimated at $ 4 billion, annual turnover exceeded 600 million euros, after which the businessman, under the threat of arrest and death, was forced to transfer 51% of his share to the president's family. Hajiyev notes that his partner and patron was the former Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov.

The company once lost $ 100 million during an audit, and when Garalov asked for a report, Hajiyev said that he had transferred $ 100 million to gentlemen as a bribe to the president's family through Beylar. According to Ilgar Hajiyev, AKKORD gave about 30% of kickbacks for each construction project.

Nazim Baydamirli says that this is not the first time such cases have occurred in Azerbaijan. "Sooner or later, the absolute majority of entrepreneurs who are in a business alliance with officials, who use tenders and purchases with the help of these officials face such problem. In this regard, businessmen, starting any business, go to separate negotiations with the heads of certain structures for the sake of getting faster or public procurement income. As a result, sooner or later they are subjected to absolute repression by embezzling public funds, bringing haraam into their halal business."
