Azerbaijan Re-exports Wristwatches for USD 216,000
Production and export of watches is an indicator of the high technological level of the state economy. In the world, very few countries are engaged in the export of watches: Switzerland, Japan, Russia ... Since last year, an unknown Azerbaijani company has been involved in the export of watches. A study by Turan IA shows that watches previously imported into the country are exported from Azerbaijan. That is, an unidentified company is engaged in re-export.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, in 2017, wristwatches and components for them were exported in the amount of $ 215.6 thousand. The State Statistics Committee did not provide information about the year 2018. In 2015, this group of goods showed exports for 79.2 thousand dollars, and in 2016, wristwatches and components were exported from the country in the amount of 72.1 thousand dollars. As it can be seen, the business of exporting watches already existed in previous years, and in the past year exports increased threefold. The State Statistics Committee does not give the name of the exporting company.
The export of this product is significantly lower than imports, since wristwatches and components for domestic consumption are imported to Azerbaijan. In 2017, they were imported in the amount of 9 million 496.4 thousand dollars, in 2015 - 4 million 567 thousand dollars, and in 2016 - 7 million 939.3 thousand dollars.
Therefore, annually a part of the watches and spare parts imported to Azerbaijan were exported for sale to other countries.
In the Azerbaijani office of Rolex, Turan"s question was answered in the way that they do not export watches from Azerbaijan and do not know the company that does this.
An advertising video has been found on YouTube, offering Russians to buy a wristwatch "from Azerbaijan" with images of the flags of Azerbaijan and Turkey on the dial.
