Following the AzMeCo the Azerenerji also decided to import Russian gas
SOCAR is ready to assist "Azerenergy" in the purchase of gas from Russian "Gazprom", told reporters the vice-president of marketing and investments Elshad Nasirov. "There is not yet agreements with Russia on gas purchase . Import of gas is assumed not for SOCAR, but for "Azerenergy" which does not have enough gas. SOCAR is ready to help in the purchase, and to provide its infrastructure, " said Nasirov. According to him, the purchase of gas for the "Azerenergy" will be possible in 2016, "if the government gives such an instruction, and if the agreement with any supplier of gas." He did not specifies the possible volume of imports.
In 2015 "Azerenergy" used for power generation in its thermal electric stations 315.600 tons of fuel oil. It is not clear why this year it does not want to use the cheapest fuel oil (cost of 100 AZN at the current rate of $63) and prefers the imported Russian gas which is by three times more expensive.
On September 28, 2015 the Azerbaijani methanol plant AzMeCo began to import the Russian gas due to lack of raw materials in the country. SOCAR has assisted in the transportation of Russian gas. On October 20 imports of the Russian gas stopped. AzMeCo explained by the fact that the price of Russian gas does not allow to produce competitive products. According to Turan, the Azerbaijani company imported only 100 million cubic meters of gas at $190 per 1,000 cubic meters. -12C--
