Oil school to supply SOCAR with staff
This year 100 students will start studying at the Baku Oil School, which belongs to SOCAR. Eltar Gasymov, Oil School rector, said that they will major in oil and gas engineering and chemical engineering.
The first year the students will study English and the last four years they will study their main subjects.
The education in the Oil School will be free. The students will have to get over 600 points at the entrance exams (maximum 700). All students will get a monthly scholarship of 100 AZN and will have a PC.
"In our school we are going to pay attention to qualitative, but not a quantitative showing. Free education will help us to find talented young people," Gasymov added.
The education in the Oil School will be based on British Heriot-Watt program. One specialist of the British University will work in the Oil School permanently. Turkish and British teachers will also teach at the Oil School.
He said all students graduated from the Oil School will be able to work at SOCAR's enterprise and institutions.
The building of the Oil School is under construction in Bibi-Eibat district.
* Oil University was established in Azerbaijan in the 1920s and it was famous all over the Soviet Union. 2,500-3,000 foreign students a year studied here. During the independence period the Azerbaijan Oil Academy lost its popularity and the students that got the lowest points at the entrance exams are admitted here. SOCAR administration has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with quality of students' training at the University.-0-
