Turkmenistan and Turkey discussed energy safety issues
Turkmenistan President Gurbangulu Berdymohammadov and Turkish President Abdulla Gyul had a telephone conversation, reported the Turkmenistan government on Wednesday.
“Gyul has highly evaluated the initiatives of Turkmenistan President, which are aimed at solution of the global problems, in particular energy safety,” reads the statement.
According to the statement the sides were in favor of intensification of the intergovernmental relationship and implementation of new joint projects.
The two presidents have also mentioned that positions of Turkmenistan and Turkey on many issues coincide, which allows efficient interaction at the world arena.
Turkish President has invited Turkmenistan President to visit Turkey any time suitable for him. The sides have agreed to coordinate the date of the visit.
Turkmenistan officials believe that it is necessary to intensify the energy dialogue within the framework of UN and OSCE, formulate mechanisms of multilateral consultations on political, financial, economic, technological and ecological aspects of construction and operation of the pipeline infrastructure.
Turkmenistan occupied the fourth place in the world on natural gas resources and it currently exports gas to China, CIS and Iran. The options to lay gas pipelines from Turkmenistan to South Asia and Europe are also under consideration.
One of the optimal options for transportation of Turkmenistan’s resources to the European market is to build about 300-km-long pipeline to the Azerbaijan’s coast along the Caspian Sea bottom. From there Turkmenistan’s gas also could be transported to Turkey, which borders on European countries.—0-
