Why did Baku decide to build a giant modular power station?
Finnish Wartsila Corporation, a leading world supplier of flexible and efficient solutions of power station, has placed on its web site information that it has concluded a contract with Azerenerji company to build a modular power station in Azerbaijan.
The company reported that till now it has put into operation 7 modular power stations with total power of 860 MWt. The biggest power station was built in Baku's Garadag region - this is Sangachal modular power station with 300 MWt power.
The planned modular power station will be the most powerful one, its 21 50SG generators will be able to generate 384 MWt. It will run only on natural gas and has a high performance factor.
The power station will be built in Beyuk-Shor district. Construction will start in the second half of this year and will be completed in autumn 2013.
Judging by all, the Azerbaijani government has decided to build the power station to supply big sport complexes, which are planned to be built around the Beyuk-Shor lake within 3-5 years to come. One of them will be the Olympic stadium, which will be able to accommodate 65,000 people. At least four sports complexes for international competitions are planned to be built around the lake.
* Wartsila released this information on July 17, 2012. However, till now neither the Azerbaijani government, nor Azerenerji have informed publicity about that.-0--
