Interim head of Uzbekistan is Shavkat Mirziyaev
The Parliament of Uzbekistan appointed Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyaev an interim head of state. This decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate. At the same time, the speaker of parliament Nigmatulla Yuldashev, who according to the law had to take over the powers of the head of state, refused himself.
A 59-year-old Mirziyaev served as head of the government of Uzbekistan since 2003.
After the death of Islam Karimov, Mirziyaev headed the commission for his funeral. -02D-
