Arif Hajili: war in Crimea is between authoritarianism and democracy
The deputy chairman of the "Musavat" party, Arif Hajili, chief of staff of the organization, Gulaga Aslanli, and a reporter of "Yeni Musavat" newspaper, Emil Salamoglu, believe their arrest yesterday in Makhachkala illegal. They were going to Crimea by train Baku-Kiev, and were taken away from the train in Makhachkala, and then sent back with police in Baku.
"The police was fulfilling political order of Moscow, and the Russian authorities restrict freedom of movement of Azerbaijanis," said at a press conference Hajily.
"We hope that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry will defend the rights of its citizens. We will also seek giving a legal assessment of this tyranny," Hajili said.
There were 15 civilians in the police department of Makhachkala 15. The police chief said that he himself did not know most of them, and there were representatives of the FSB and other structures.
"First they began threatening that they will jail us for five years. There were telephone calls every five minutes, and they told us the calls were because of us. Ultimately, we were fined 500 rubles for an administrative offense, and were sent to the territory of Azerbaijan under the supervision of two police officers," said Hajili. Aslanli said that they were subjected to psychological pressure.
"They wanted to make us sign administrative reports. When they saw the Schengen visas in our passports , they began to insult the West and advised not to intervene in the situation in Crimea," Aslanly.
But despite this , "Musavat" party will continue to protect the rights of the Crimean Tatars.
"Problems of the Crimea is not a regional issue. Crimea today is on the front lines of the struggle between authoritarianism and democracy . "Musavat" party supports democracy, and in this fight is with Crimea and Ukraine," said Hajili .
"Musavat" also believes that unfair attitude towards the Crimean Tatars still exists, and hundreds of thousands of deported people have not returned to their motherland. -03C-
