Armed Incident on Border with Iran
Baku / 20.03.20 / Turan: On the border with Iran, an attempt to illegally penetrate the territory of Azerbaijan by two armed smugglers was stopped.
According to the State Border Service, on March 19 at 22.20 a border guard patrol discovered an attempt to illegally cross the state border from Iran to Azerbaijan near the village of Shahseven 2 of the Beylagan region.
The violators did not obey the «stop» command, so warning fire was opened into the air. However, the violators, not obeying the orders, opened fire on the border guards, endangering their lives. The patrol, in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Azerbaijan "On the State Border," used weapons and neutralized both violators. A Winchester-type rifle was withdrawn from one of them, and a Glock pistol and a night vision device were removed from the other. Narcotic drugs, mainly heroin, opium and marijuana, with a total weight of 61 kg were discovered at the scene in two bags.
A resident of the Shahseven 1 village, Nijat Sabir Oglu Miriyev (born in 1972) and a resident of the Shahseven 2 village, Elshan Ali Oglu Mammadov (born in 1982), were detained as suspects.
