Armenia will not arm the population of the border areas
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan opposed arming the residents of the settlement bordering Azerbaijan. According to the site of the press service of the President of Armenia, he stated this at a meeting with members of the Public Council on July 24.
"Public Chamber has made a number of proposals on security and the strengthening of border lines. There was also active discussion around the idea of arming residents of border villages, which ws opposed by the president, were presented in detail all currently existing opportunities created in the sun for border residents, capable to bear arms," reads the statement.
The fact that the military leadership discusses Karabakh arming residents of Kelbajar region this week, reported the Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan. He said that many residents of the area are already contract servicemen, and the question of arms can be solved by allowing them to take weapons home.
At a government meeting the military minister said that the Command of the Karabakh, is working on mining of the border areas, in order to prevent in the future the penetration of Azerbaijani subversive groups.

The gas pipeline from Russia to Iran will pass through Azerbaijan, its route has been agreed upon. Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev told reporters, TASS reports.

On January 17, the Khatai District Court of Baku rejected the requests for house arrest for journalists Aynur Elgünesh and Natig Djavadly, employees of Meydan TV, their lawyers, Elchin Sadigov and Zibeyda Sadigova reported to Turan news agency. According to the lawyers, there are no legal or procedural grounds for keeping the journalists in detention. The journalists themselves stated that the criminal case against them had been fabricated to punish them for their professional activities. The defense intends to appeal the court's refusal to transfer the journalists to house arrest.
