Azerbaijani historian calls for the establishment of an international commission on the Armenian tragedy in 2015

On the day of 100th anniversary of the Armenian tragedy in Ottoman Turkey the famous Azerbaijani historian Jamil Hasanli  took the initiative to establish an international commission to study the issue with the participation of scientists historians, experts in the field of law.

"I believe that today it is time to openly look into each other's eyes, and openly explore the events of those days as part of an international group of representatives from the scientific historians, experts in the field of law. There are two different approaches, the Armenian and Turkish, to the events of those years, and their interpretation leads to very serious political, legal and moral mishaps and speculation, which seriously hinders the rapprochement of the two peoples and peace in the region. My personal research,  which are based mainly on historical data of the participating countries of the First World War and the participants of the events may still seem biased because of my ethnicity as Azerbaijani. But I think everyone will agree with the conclusions of the international coalition of scientists, and thereby open the history of the world in the Armenian-Turkish relations. Though  these conclusions are sad, but this is the only way to answer the question "Who is to blame?" said Hasanli.

But our goal should not be  the  search for the perpetrators, our objective should be to find ways to repentance and reconciliation, he continued. "I urge all interested academia to take a step to establish such a commission, and member- state of the First World War to create conditions of fruitful work of the group,"  reads the appeal of Jamil Hasanli.

Jamil Hasanli is a doctor of historical sciences, political and social activist, an opposition candidate in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October 2013. He is the author of 15 monographs and books, over 100 articles published in Azerbaijan, USA, Turkey and other  countries.-0-
