CEC to Consider Mehman Huseynov’s Complaint
Baku / 04.02.20 / Turan: The complaint of the candidate for deputy in the 31st Surakhany Second District by blogger Mehman Huseynov about attempting to bribe him from an opponent in the parliamentary elections, Faraj Guliyev, has already arrived at the CEC and will be considered. Huseynov himself told Turan with reference to representatives of the CEC.
“Yesterday at the end of the day we were at the CEC. They told us that my complaint had already been received and would be considered,” Huseynov said. The district election commission also confirmed receipt of the blogger’s complaint. “The district election commission told me that this issue is within the competence of the CEC,” Huseynov said.
Recall that on February 1, Huseynov released an audio recording of his conversation with Faraj Guliyev, who offers the blogger to withdraw his candidacy in exchange for 15,000 manat.
Guliyev acknowledged the authenticity of the record, but said he had offered money for treatment, and not as a bribe.
Lawyers expressed the opinion that Guliyev’s actions showed signs of a criminal act and his candidacy should be annulled.
Faraj Guliyev is known for having abandoned the opposition camp in the early 2000s. In 1995, he was convicted and spent several years in prison. In 2002, he was pardoned, and after his release, he began to sharply criticize his former associates - Democrats and supporters of the Popular Front.
In 2010 and 2015, Guliyev was elected as a deputy of the parliament as chairman of the National Revival Movement party. –06D--
