Congressman Dan Burton discussed the situation around Iran and Baku
Member of the U.S. Congress Danny Lee "Dan" Burton called fruitful the talks held in Baku. At the press conference on the results of the talks, at the meeting with Azerbaijani President, the Speaker of Parliament and Minister discussed bilateral relations, the situation in Iran, regional issues, and pardon of Ramil Safarov. Being asked to comment on the situation around Safarov, the congressman said that his opinion differs from that of Washington. "I believe that the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed territories should be continued," said the congressman.

Speaking about the Iran's nuclear program, Burton said that " this is a threat not only for Azerbaijan, but also to the whole region, and it concerns the government of Azerbaijan," said Burton.
He did not comment on the possible actions of Israel and the United States in case of continuation of the Iranian nuclear program, but said that Iran must stop its nuclear program. "Israel will make every effort to ensure the safety of its people," he said. Referring to the US-Azerbaijani relations, Burton said that the United States considers Azerbaijan as an important ally and friend.
Asking the question whether the congressman discussed in Baku issue of human rights, Burton said that they did not speak much on the matter, because the Azerbaijani authorities are well aware of these issues for the USA.
