ECC Musavat Asks Angela Merkel to Raise Issue of Political Prisoners in Baku
Baku / 18.08.18 / Turan: The European Coordination Center (ECC) Musavat held a protest in Berlin on August 18, demanding the release of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
The action took place in front of the building, where the meeting of the Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin was held.
Its participants raised placards with the slogans "Liberation for Karabakh!", "No to Dictatorship!", "Freedom to Political Prisoners!", "Stop Pressure on Political Emigrants!", the press service of the Musavat Center told.
The action is timed to the forthcoming visit of Angela Merkel to Azerbaijan on August 25.
"We, who have received asylum in Europe, before your visit and your meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, ask you to call him to cause his government to respect the international norms, human rights and freedoms, immediately release all political prisoners, restore freedom of assembly, ensure freedom of the press, stop the pressure and persecution of political emigrants and their relatives," the appeal addressed to Angela Merkel said. ------06D-
