Georgia Opens Transport Corridor from Russia to Armenia
Yerevan / 25.05.18 / Turan: Representatives of Russia and Georgia on May 24 in Prague reached an agreement that a tripartite commission will be formed for customs control of cargo on the territory of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It will consist of representatives of Georgia, Russia and the Swiss company SGS. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.
"In the event of implementation of the agreement, we will have alternative ways of transporting goods in cases where the road through Upper Lars is closed," the Armenian media quoted Avinyan as saying.
He also noted that the conversation on this topic was still on May 14 at Pashinyan's meeting with Putin in Sochi.
Earlier, the special envoy of the Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Abashidze, before the meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, said that official Tbilisi was ready to open "trade corridors" from Russia to Georgia and Armenia.
It should be noted that this agreement, if implemented, will weaken the economic blockade of Armenia, which is experiencing serious difficulties due to the closure of roads and communications by Azerbaijan and Turkey.
For many years, Georgia also refused to open communications from Abkhazia and South Ossetia, where separatist regimes supported by Russia are in power. -02D-
