Gubad Ibadoglu - leader of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity

The founding conference of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity (MDP) was held on Saturday. Of the MDP was created in early December 2014 by a group of leading figures and activists of the party "Musavat", headed by well-known economist Gubad Ibadoglu. The founding conference was attended by about 250 people - prominent representatives of Azerbaijani civil society, intellectuals, Karabakh war veterans and others. The conference formed the governing bodies of the movement headed by Gubad Ibadoglu. He called the MDP an association of honest, decent people who seek salvation of Azerbaijan.  The MDP stands for construction legal society in Azerbaijan, the rule of law, open society, a liberal economy.

The MDP believes that first of all political prisoners should be released, the persecution of citizens for political reasons should stop,  dialogue for the sake of civil peace and solidarity should begin, the conditions for the activities of NGOs, the main pillars of civil society, should be created.

To date, the MDP  created structures in  a third of districts and cities of the country; it is planned to create   them until the end of the year in 90% of the administrative-territorial units. Today were adopted statutes and program of action  of the MDP for 2015.

Ibadoghlu was a candidate for the  head of "Musavat", but the Congress  elected Arif Hajili to this post .

Gubadoglu recognized the election results, but did not agree with the method of electing delegates to the congress, which pre-determined the outcome. These statements and discussions on this topic soon acquired the character of sharp criticism and were regarded by the leadership of "Musavat", as split and violation of party discipline. Eventually Gubadoglu was expelled from the party. Significant number of Musavat members  followed him. -06С-
