Karasin: Russia Interested in Developing Cooperation with Azerbaijan
Baku / 27.09.18 / Turan: Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Russia were held in Baku on Wednesday. Delegations of the parties were headed by Deputy Ministers - Khalaf Khalafov and Grigory Karasin, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.
During the meeting it was noted that the developing multifaceted relations of strategic partnership meet the interests of both countries, and are also important for achieving stability and progress in the region.
The sides stressed the existence of an intensive dialogue at the highest level. Numerous bilateral documents give impetus to deepening ties.
Khalafov noted the potential for expanding cooperation in industry, agriculture, tourism, transport and communications, education, healthcare, etc.
The trade turnover between the two countries is growing dynamically. Azerbaijan separately cooperates with 70 regions of the Russian Federation.
Karasin also pointed to a different format for cooperation, including between the parliament and departments. Russia is interested in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan, which occupies a leading position in the South Caucasus.
Karasin noted the importance of continuing mediation efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
It should be noted that consultations took place on the eve of the September 27 visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Baku. -06D--

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.

During the ongoing COP29 climate conference in Baku on November 14, a group of activists staged a protest condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The activists also denounced countries that supply oil and weapons to nations waging aggressive wars. The protest featured placards with slogans such as: "From fossil fuels to peace!", "End war crimes!", "Punish the aggressor!", and "Phase out fossil fuel use to achieve peace!" among others.
