Meeting of Head of State Commission with Red Cross Representative
Baku / 13.10.20 / Turan: Head of the State Security Service (SSS), Chairman of the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Missing Persons and Hostages of Azerbaijan Ali Nagiyev met with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Baku Ariana Bauer.
Nagiyev drew attention to the fact that as a result of the military aggression of the Republic of Armenia against Azerbaijan, international humanitarian law was seriously violated, intentional killings of civilians of Azerbaijan were committed on the basis of national, racial, religious hatred or enmity, and property was destroyed.
Despite reaching an agreement on an armistice from noon on October 10, the Armenian Armed Forces fired at an ambulance car in the village of Sugovushan several hours later, seriously wounding an Azerbaijani medical worker.
On the night of October 11, the Armenian Armed Forces fired rockets at Ganja, where 10 civilians were killed and 35 were wounded.
Since September 27 this year, as a result of artillery and rocket attacks, 41 civilians have died, 211 have been injured, and more than 1200 private houses and civilian objects have been destroyed.
Nagiyev noted that videos published on social networks about the criminal actions of the Armenian military and their mockery of the bodies of killed Azerbaijani servicemen testify to a serious violation of Articles 16 and 17 of the Geneva Convention.
In conclusion, Nagiyev presented to Bauer the facts of violation of international humanitarian law by Armenia and called on the ICRC to give an objective assessment of the violations.
In turn, Bauer stressed that the interaction between the ICRC and the State Commission was generally constructive and brought concrete results, and expressed the hope that the fruitful cooperation will continue to develop.
The parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest. –0---
