Musavat Party Announces Obstacles to Candidates for Deputies
Baku / 30.12.19 / Turan: The Musavat party issued a statement stating obstacles to candidates for deputies in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
In particular, the obstacles and red tape faced by candidates for deputies in a number of districts are indicated.
Such facts took place in districts in the territories of Baku, Sumgait, Siyazan, Astara, Lerik and other areas.
So, in the 54th Shabran-Siyazan constituency, the chairman of the district election commission Saleh Tahmazov refused to accept Musavat candidate Mardan Mehdili’s registration documents, including signature sheets.
In Lerik and Astara, a number of voters who signed up for the Musavat candidates faced pressure from the executive branch.
In addition, according to the Electoral Code, candidates for deputies, along with signature lists with 450 signatures of voters, must also submit to the district election commissions certificates of residence, income, property, and bank account.
However, on the ground, a number of government agencies are delaying the issuance of these documents.
And given the fact that on December 31 to January 6, the country will not be working, the time for collecting these documents for candidates is reduced by 7 days.
With this in mind, the Musavat party requires:
Remove artificial obstacles to candidates for deputies;
To ensure work on holidays of those state bodies and bank branches that are responsible for issuing necessary documents to candidates or to extend the deadline for collecting documents by seven days.
Musavat called on the country's public and international human rights organizations to provide more active support for the struggle for free elections. —06В-
