NCDF condemns placing a war veteran to mental hospital
The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) condemned placing a disabled of the Karabakh war, Malik Mejdov, to a psychiatric hospital.
On February 14 Mejidov, in protest against the refusal to provide him a housing, attempted self-immolation in front of the Executive Power of Sumgayit. Administration officials of the city incited him to this action by saying "Go and burn yourself." Mejidov poured gasoline on himself, but people prevented set fire on himself. At the same time despite poor health and injury, the veteran was taken not to the hospital, but to the police office N4. In the morning they called a doctor to examine him, and Mejidov was taken to hospital, and from there was sent to a psychiatric clinic.
The NCDF condemns the authorities for using Soviet methods to combat dissent, and considers unacceptable callous attitude of officials to the problems and needs of war veterans , and demands to ensure Mejidov’s , and all Karabakh veterans’ rights.—06D--
