Prosecutor Office and Interior Ministry accuse the opposition of unrest
Prosecutor General Office and the Interior Ministry issued a joint statement on the events in Ismayilli, accusing two opposition members of involvement in the riots. According to the press-service of the Prosecutor General Office, the deputy chairman of "Musavat" Tofiq Yagublu and co-chair of the REAL Movement, Ilgar Mammadov visited Ismailli on January 24. "They told the public not to obey police, resist, and block the road.
Their calls to disrupt social and political stability, as well as illegal activities will be thoroughly investigated, and their actions will be given a legal assessment," reads the statement.
The document further states that different expertise will find out the damage caused to the state, citizens, and police officers.
As for the causes of disorder, the report said that on January 23, the administrator of "Chirag" Hotel, Emil Shamdinov, and his friend, Elmeddin Mamedov, were drunk and damaged another's property by intentional acts of hooliganism. It caused a massive conflict, which ended at arson of different cars. Both of the above mentioned were arrested, and a lawsuit was filed against them in the Investigation Department for Serious Crimes of the General Prosecutor Office.
The residents of the region: Vasif Ibragimov, Shukran Muhubaliev, Shakir Mustafayev, Ceyhun Abbasov, Jafar Jafarov, and previously convicted Elshan Gurbanov, were accused of setting fire to the hotel, and were arrested.
Sakhavat Samedov and Khayal Sharan, have been accused of robbery and are also arrested; 52 people were detained for taking part in public disorder. Of these, 23 were subjected to administrative arrest, 15 – were fined, 14 – were warned. The statement also said that recently some media spread biased and prejudiced information deliberately distorting the events that happened on the basis of hooliganism. -16D04-
