Reaction in Azerbaijan to French Senate's Decision on Karabakh
Baku /26.11.20 / Turan: On November 25, the French Senate adopted a resolution on the recognition of the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh as a state, inviting the country's government to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh.
Jean-Baptiste Lemoine, Secretary of State at the French Foreign Ministry, commenting on the adoption of the document, stated that the recognition of Karabakh's independence by Paris would not benefit anyone, recalling that even Armenia did not dare to take such a step.
Official Baku and the expert community reacted immediately.
“Although the resolution is advisory, the Senate has dealt a strong blow to France. It is ruled by deceitful, corrupt and shameless politicians who have earned the contempt of the Azerbaijani people,” Milli Mejlis deputy Elkhan Aleskerov writes in a social network.
Analyst Vugar Ismayilov (St. Petersburg) noticed inconsistency in the actions of the French senators: they recognized the Armenian regime in Karabakh, defeated by the Azerbaijani army, as a "state", but, at the same time, Paris did not notice similar separatist regimes in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
“We cannot expel France from the OSCE Minsk Group, since we did not form it. The composition of the MG was formed by the OSCE on the basis of the consensus of all its members. We can announce at the OSCE summit that the conflict has found its solution (even if some do not agree with this), therefore we will not participate in the work of the Minsk Group,” Ismayilov writes.
He considers it important to achieve the entry of the Turkish peacekeeping contingent into the region.
Moreover, the Turkish contingent should be mobile, moving, and not just stationary monitoring with an office somewhere on the island of Pirallahi.
To invite peacekeepers or not is the exclusive sovereign right of Baku (the opinion of Paris is irrelevant), as, in fact, is the definition of their mission and area. This time, the agreement can be bilateral, without Armenia, since from December 1 it formally ceases to be a party to the conflict.
It is important that the sovereignty of Azerbaijan over the inner part of Nagorno-Karabakh is officially recognized by the Kremlin, which means that Moscow will have to come to terms with the appearance of a Turkish contingent in Karabakh, Ismayilov said.
Political analyst Farhad Mammadov also believes that France should be removed from the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. The United States and Russia will remain. We can also recognize the independence of Corsica and New Caledonia from France, and the genocide of the Algerians by France. -0-
