Scandal in the Democratic Azerbaijan World Party

The Democratic Azerbaijan World Party (DAWP) has appeared in the center of a scandal after the resignation of its chairman Mammad Alizadeh on June 22 of this year.

To resign for health reasons, Alizadeh appointed his first deputy Mirkazym Seyidov as the acting head of the party. Simultaneously, an organizing committee was established to convene an extraordinary congress of the party and the election of a new chairman.

However, Seyidov began extorting 10-15 thousand manat from several members of the party, promising the chairman office to each of them. All this was the subject of proceedings in the organizing committee. Seyidov rejected the charges and threatened to disband the committee. In response, the organizing committee decided to exclude Seyidov from the party. Members of the organizing committee told the media all this at a press conference in the Media Center.

Members of the committee denied Seyidov’s statements in the media that he was collecting the money for the former party leader Alizadeh. According to them, a Russian citizen Seyidov has no legal right to engage in political activity in Azerbaijan. "However, we in DAWP have learned this just now," they said.

Finally, the organizing committee issued a statement, which emphasized the party’s loyalty to the "ideas of Heydar Aliyev".

Note that DAWP is a pro-government force, which at one time planned to announce First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva as their leader, but then abandoned the idea. -06C –
