Sezgin Rustamov: Russian embassy refuses to help its citizen
Baku / 14.09.18 / Turan: Sezgin Rustamov, the son of Azerbaijani citizen Salekh Rustamov, who was arrested in Azerbaijan, appealed to the Russian Embassy in Baku with a request to assist in organizing his meeting with his father held in Baku jail N1. In his statement in media Sezgin Rustamov, who is also a citizen of the Russian Federation, came to Baku to see the arrested father. On September 12, he asked the Russian embassy for help. He was asked what his father was accused of, and promised to help. However, later he was told that they could not help, motivating that Saleh Rustamov is connected with a "banned organization".
"They told us that if it were connected with drugs or some kind of criminal crime, it would be possible to help. However, due to the connection of the case with the Popular Front Party, they cannot help," said Sezgin Rustamov. At the request of the Turan agency on this issue, the Russian embassy in Baku was asked to send a request in writing.
Let's remind that Saleh Rustamov and his nephew Vidadi Rustamli were arrested in May this year on charges of illegal drug trafficking. However, on May 26 the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan reported the arrest of S. Rustamov and V.Rustamli along with the activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Agil Maharramov, Ruslan and Nasirli and Babek Hasanov on charges of "illegal financing" of the PFPA.
The arrested were charged with illegal business, laundering money obtained by criminal means, etc. PFPA rejected accusations of obtaining illegal financing. All those arrested in this case are recognized as human rights defenders by political prisoners. -03B06-
