What Did Anonymous Steal from Azerbaijan?

Specializing in the field of technical safety, SC Magazine confirmed the hacking of the website of Azerbaijan's state energy company, Azerenergy.

SC Magazine reports that the volume of the stolen information was 7 Gigabytes including financial details, maritime communications, contracts, research papers, photos, ads and "illegal scheme" activities. All of this was put on an anonymous forum cyberguerilla.org on the afternoon of September 3.

The whole package was split into 13 pieces and placed on the anonymous file-hosting website AnonFiles.com. But on Thursday, access to these resources became impossible.

"We are not happy with the policy by Aliyev, so this release is our next action to deal with the Azeri mafia clan," the band wrote in its message.

This is the third attack by Anonymous on government websites in Azerbaijan. In January, the group broke into the website of the Special State Protection Service dmx.gov.az, although they latter denied the break-in.

In April, Anonymous organized leaks of 1.5 GB of data from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies.

The hacker group also reported that there is a connection between various corporations and government agencies on the financing of terrorist groups.

Anonymous was created by a group of hacker activists in 2003, sharing the idea of freedom and anonymity on the Internet. Some analysts regard Anonymous as fighters for Internet freedom, while others condemn them as cyber anarchist guerrillas.

Commenting to Turan, the head of Internet Forum, Osman Gunduz, said that after several attacks on government sites, the Head of State declared to ensure Internet security in September 2012, when, under the State Service for Special Protection, a special State Security Agency of Communication and Information was established.

"However, given that such incidents continue, it means that the activity of this entity is not very effective," said Gunduz.

The Turan correspondent’s attempts to get a comment on the matter from the State Security Agency of Communication and Information have failed. So, a responsible person able to comment on this matter was not found. The attendant on the agency’s phone promised to help find a boss who would give a comment. -0 –
