What is publishing house "Qanun" punished for?
Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan applied sanctions against publishing house "Qanun" totaling 150,000 manat, according to the Turan editorial director Shahbaz Khuduoglu. He said that lawsuit has been filed against publishers on the fact of tax evasion. Khuduoglu has been brought to investigation as a witness.
One November 1, 2013 the Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan started an audit of a private publishing house “Qanun.” All employees have been evicted from the building, there was a search, and representatives of the Ministry seized all the financial records of the company and computers.
Following an audit revealed the alleged non-payment of VAT. Khuduoglu rejects charges of tax evasion.
According to him, "the tax inspectors accrued tax amount according to their own calculations on the basis of the material seized."
Still have to figure out how legitimate tax calculations , said Khuduoglu.
According to him, the publishing house "Qanun" , in turn, challenged the legitimacy of the exemption documentation.
"The seizure of documents was carried out forcibly. We filed a lawsuit to invalidate the forced removal of documents and other property of the publishing house. However, Baku Administrative Economic Court No.1 did not satisfy our claim," said Khuduoglu, adding that the court's decision will be appealed.
The tax audit in publishing house began three weeks after the presidential election, when "Qanun" printed campaign materials of the opposition candidate Jamil Hasanli.
Khuduoglu does not exclude that this case is used as an excuse, and the publishing house is punished for disobedience , and in particular for refusing to pay bribes to regulatory authorities . "I have never given and will not continue to pay bribes as we work honestly," said Khuduoglu.—0-
