Changes in the law "On Citizenship" will create bureaucratic problems

Changes and additions to the law "On citizenship" would increase the volume of work of the embassies and consulates of Azerbaijan abroad. This, in turn, will create some problems for the citizens, the head of  the  "Constitutional Studies" Fund,  Alimammad Nuriyev, told in an interview Objective TV.    He believes that enforcing the law is necessary to strengthen the possibility of on-line applications from citizens. Currently embassies and consulates cannot provide citizens with the necessary electronic services. This may cause corruption, loss   time, additional financial expenditure, says Nuriyev.

At the same time, he believes that the additions and changes to the law will not lead to an automatic loss of citizens for  the Azerbaijani citizens living abroad.

"Changes to the law  are apply to the period after July 1, 2014. If an Azerbaijani living abroad  has the citizenship of another country,  he will serve in the army of this country to be elected to municipal or other authorities, then the law can be   applied.

If all the above is no the above mentioned, and the citizen of Azerbaijan is working abroad in the private or public sector,  he will not lose citizenship of Azerbaijan," says Nuriyev.

In his view, changes in the law  are provides due to the elimination of gaps in the laws relating to public relations. "This law is of  sociopolitical character, and it is  necessary to consider the possible threat to Azerbaijan," said Nuriyev. -03B04-
