On Thursday at the Park Inn was a presentation of the campaign: "Women - food heroes" implemented in the framework of the project "National Strategy for improving food security through small-scale agriculture." The project provides international humanitarian organization Oxfam, with financial support of the European Union. The aim of the project is to present a model women- farmers, as well as to evaluate the role of women in food safety issues. A profile will be created in the Facebook , where you will see the work of successful women farmers. Ten finalists will be chosen and the winner will be elected by universal suffrage.
The head of the Azerbaijani representation of Oxfam, Shovket Alizadeh, noted that 38% of the population of the country is engaged in agriculture. Most of them are women, but their work is not taken into account properly. According to Alizadeh, only 10% of grants from foreign donors are provided to women leaders.
Participants of the presentation noted that 50.2% of the population - women and half of them live in rural areas. At the same time, they are paid less than men.
An employee of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children, Aynur Veysalova, reported that recently 1,200 women-leaders were issued loans for 55 million manat. This is by 5-6 times less than the credits allocated for men-leaders. -03C04-
