World Cancer Day is celebrated on February 4, reports calend.ru.
This annual event organized by the International Union Against Cancer, UICC since 2005 in order to draw public attention to this global problem recalls how dangerous and prevalent cancer is now.
Logo of the Day each year, starting in 2008, has marked a specific theme. In 2015, it is under the motto: "Cancer. Not far from us."
In Azerbaijan, by the beginning of 2014 medical institutions listed 34,681 carriers of cancer, says radio Azadlig. This is 7.4% more than in 2012, the report of the State Statistics Committee "On health care, social security and housing conditions in 2013" says.
On the data for 2014, official statistics has not yet been presented.
In 2013, the diagnosis of cancer was made for 9,064 people. Total from 2009 to 2013 this illness overtook 41,547 people. According to estimates of the statistics, for every 100 000 citizens of Azerbaijan there are 370.6 with cancer. The most common forms of cancer are cancer of the breast, the lungs, the respiratory tract and the stomach.
The disease spreads rapidly among the population. Suffice it to note that in 2000, the diagnosis of cancer was made for 4,800 patients.
In Azerbaijan, there is a state program on the national fight against cancer. To finance the program of measures to ensure essential drugs against cancer only in 2013 AZN 25.2 million was spent from the state budget. This year's funding will increase by 13.8 million manat, or 55.2%, said the Ministry of Finance, according to Azadlig. But patients often complain that they have to pay for free procedures and medications.
Cancer is always a tragedy. But if cancer is detected at an early stage, it is possible to conduct successful treatment.
According to the World Health Organization, radiation therapy is needed for about 70% of the cancer patients. On average, only 30% of the patients requiring radiotherapy undergo this treatment. -0-
