Civil Society Demands Release of Nigar Yagublu
Civil society representatives held a press conference today in connection with the arrest of a young activist of Musavat, Nigar Yagublu, demanding that officials cancel the arrest measure for her.
The Head of the Economic Research Center Gubad Ibadoglu recalled that on August 25, a member of Musavat, Aydin Adzhalov was killed in a car accident and Nigar Yagublu, who was in the same car, also suffered.
The Absheron district court sanctioned the arrest of Nigar Yagublu on September 10. According to Ibadoglu, this was a continuation of the dangerous practice, when a person is arrested without any reason, for a traffic accident.
Civil society representatives offered to send an appeal to the head of state for release of Yagublu or her liberation on bail.
Taufiq Yagublu - the father of the arrested, said his daughter did not evade investigation as the investigator Rafik Hasanov alleged.
He recalled that, from August 25 to September 4, his daughter was in the hospital, and the call from the prosecutor's office came on September 4, immediately after her leaving the hospital. Another summons came to her on September 6. Nigar Yagublu came to the place, but the investigator was not there. Once again, the summons came on September 9, on which she also visited the investigator's office.
On the same day the case was referred to the court to sanction the arrest. The court did not accept this decision. However, Nigar Yagublu was not released. The arrest warrant was represented only by 10 September, and Nigar was sent to prison in Kurdakhani (a suburb of Baku). "We are concerned that the case will not be conducted objectively," said Taufiq Yagublu.
The lawyer Adil Ismail said the decision of the court was unreasonable. According to him, there is a political motive in the case. An appeal of the case will be reviewed on September 14. -05C04-
