Depth of the earthquake"s epicenter saved from destruction (UPDATED)
Today's earthquake in Azerbaijan was strong, but its epicenter was at a depth of 55 km. Because of this, the destructive power was not as strong and no one was injured, the director of the Center of Seismological Service of the National Academy Qurban Yetirmishli told Turan.
According to him, within a few hours there were several strong aftershocks in Shamakha and Hajigabul (5.7-6 points) and several aftershocks were in the Caspian Sea (3.2 points).
Asked about the predictions of the expected strong earthquake in Baku, the scientist said that such forecasts are not consistent, and it is impossible to pre-calculate or predict earthquake. However, it is known that Azerbaijan is in a seismically active zone and strong aftershocks occur periodically.
The last strong earthquake was recorded in November 2000, when the shocks were 6.5 points in Baku, and in the midst of the Caspian Sea they were more than 7 points. – 03B -

In 16 15 on 10 February and earthquake was recorded in Azerbaijan. Tremors were felt in Baku at a force of 4-4.5 points. Furniture moved and chandeliers swayed in apartments.
Strong tremors were felt also in the northern and southern parts of the country.
According to the Seismological Service of the National Academy, the epicenter of the earthquake was 41 km from the town Saattly where strength of the shocks was about 5 points.
Power of the shocks gradually weakened as the distance from the epicenter increased.
