Deputy editor of the newspaper is threatened
The editorial office of the "Yukselish namine" newspaper (In the name of revival) located in Sumgayit, announces the pressure of local authorities and police on the deputy editor of the publication Elchin Hasanov. the newspaper stated that he repeatedly is detained by police and is taken to court, where Hasanov is fined and arrested.
Eevery time during mass rallies of citizens the police take under control his house, and troubles neighbors and his family. In addition, Hasanov is regularly watched and threatened that he will be arrested.
The last case of tyranny took place on April 22 at 15:00, when Hasanov was detained by persons in civilian clothes and taken to the Sumgait police district.
He was interrogated without a lawyer, the police gave false testimonies that he broke their identity and violated public order. They ill-treated with Hasanov, and did not allow him to call home, and took the away a phone.
The statement says that the cause of detention of Hasanov became critical articles and publications in the net about the leadership of Sumgait.
Hasanov was brought to court without a lawyer and fined 100 manat. After that, he returned to the police and was subjected to psychological pressure, threatening more severe measures if he does not critical publications about the authorities of the city.
The editors express their concern for the fate of Hasanov and demand to top illegal actions against the deputy editor, asks local and international human rights organizations to control this situation.
Hasanov is also deputy chairman of the NGO "Legal Education of Sumgait Youth." The day before he said that under pressure from the city authorities, who blame him for organizing the protests of citizens and their coverage in the media. In particular, due to the recent protests against the felling of trees in one of the neighborhoods of the city he was attracted to administrative liability and was fined.—06D-
