Baku / 29.06.17 / Turan: On June 29, the Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the complaint of journalist Afgan Mukhtarly about the replacement of arrest for house arrest.

The trial with participation of Mukhtarly was closed. Ae lawyer Elchin Sadigov said, the defense tried to convince the presiding judge Vugar Mammadov that the replacement of the preventive measure is justified. However, the panel dismissed the complaint. On June 20, the Nasimi court also refused to change the measure of restraint. The defense intends to apply to the European Court of Justice.

The lawyer also reported on some innovations in the case of his client.

"There remain problems with Afgan Mukhtarly's health. Despite appeals to the relevant authorities, the necessary measures to assist him are not being taken," said the lawyer. Elchin Sadigov expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the Georgian embassy in Azerbaijan is not interested in the fate of Mukhtarly. The journalist is still waiting for a meeting with the representative of the Georgian embassy in Azerbaijan. Previously, he asked for such a meeting.

The lawyer also said that the criminal case instituted against Afgan Mukhtarli was combined with a case brought up several years ago against the Internet-based Meydan TV, based in Germany. The merger of the two cases shows that additional persons will be brought to the case, the lawyer believes.

Another news was the involvement of deputy Elman Nasirov in the case. Earlier, this deputy made a statement that the kidnapping of Mukhtarli was carried out during a joint operation of the special services of Azerbaijan and Georgia.

"We filed a petition in connection with this, where they asked us to bring to investigation and interrogate the employee of the Carčy program on ITV and the deputy. Our court has satisfied these petitions," said the lawyer. -0-
