Detained Fans Released (updated)

Baku / 12.06.19 / Turan: A group of fans who shouted the slogan "Resign!" during the match were taken to the 24th police precinct of the Nizami district police department.

As one of them, Imran Hajibeyli, said, after the Azerbaijani national team in the match against the Slovakia team missed three goals, the audience stood up and began chanting "Resign!"

After the 4th goal missed, the slogans became even louder. Several men in plainclothes took Hajibeyli and another 16 fans to the police station. There, they were told to write an explanatory note that the request for resignation was addressed to the national team head coach (Croatian expert Nikola Yurčević). In fact, the slogans "resign" were addressed to the leadership of the AFFA.

By 23.00 all the detainees were released. It was not possible to get comments at the 24th police station and the Interior Ministry. -0-

Team Loses Shamefully, Fans Punished?

Baku / 12.06.19 / Turan: Te day before the Azerbaijan national football team in the Euro 2020 qualifying tournament lost to Slovakia in Baku with a score of 1: 5.

The inexpressive game of the national team caused indignation of local fans in the stands. They began chanting "Istefa!" ("Resign!") to the AFFA (National Association of Football Federations).

At the same time, as eyewitnesses told, people in civilian clothes among the fans detained about 70-80 people and took them out of the stadium.

What happened to these people is not known, because the official bodies did not give any information, and it was not possible to get comments from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Metropolitan Police.

This is the third defeat of the national team of Azerbaijan in the qualifying round. Previously, it lost to Croatia 1: 2 and Hungary 1: 3. The Wales team is also participating in this group.
