E. Hasanov: "This Is Act of Pardoning Criminals"
The Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners criticized the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to pardon 423 convicts.
"This is an act of pardoning criminals, rather than a gesture of goodwill and humanism. The victims of the arbitrariness of the former MNS, who have been in prison for more than 10 years, convicted in the case of Saeed Dadashbeyli have not been pardoned.
But among the pardoned there are those who committed serious crimes, in particular a high rank from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, member of the "Haji Mammadov gang" (Zakir Nasirov). No one of the believers has been pardoned. The pardon has not touched the former Special Police Force members imprisoned for more than 20 years, victims kept in the Gobustan prison as a result of the political games of the 1990s, imprisoned bloggers and journalists. Even the conditional punishment of the human rights activists Intigam Aliyev and Khadija Ismail has not been canceled. "The pardon act did not fulfill the expectations," said the head of the Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners Elshan Hasanov. -06D--
