Faig Amirov diagnosed with new diseases
Baku / 15.04.17 / Turan: Fakhraddin Mehdiyev, a lawyer of Faig Amirov, the financial director of Azadlig newspaper, visited him on the eve of the Kurdakhan detention center. The lawyer said, his client was examined by the doctors of the pre-trial detention center. Along with his stomach disease, Amirov also had problems with the liver and gall bladder.
"Amirov is being treated in the detention center, however, it is not effective, because a special diet is needed, which is impossible there," said the lawyer.
The defense repeatedly petitioned for a change in the measure of restraint, but the courts rejected these appeals. According to the lawyer, the preliminary investigation is coming to the end.
* Amirov was arrested in August 2016. He is charged under Articles 283.1 (incitement to inter-religious strife) and 168.1 (encroachment on human rights under the pretext of performing religious rituals) of the Criminal Code. The investigation accused him of having links with the Hizmet Movement of Fetullah Gulen, who was declared the organizer of the failed coup in July 2016 in Turkey.
However, the true reason for the arrest, according to civil society activists, is to strangle the newspaper Azadliq and the leader of the Popular Front Party, Ali Kerimli, whose assistant is also Amirov. 06B-
