Families of Military Killed During Investigation Sue Defense Ministry
Baku / 12.06.19 / Turan: After the widow of the officer Sakhavat Binnatov filed a lawsuit against the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, demanding 200,000 manat of compensation, the widows of other military accused of treason and tortured during the investigation in 2017 decided to follow the suit.
Thus, the widow of the officer Elshan Mirzoyev, Gunay Ibrahimova accuses the Ministry of Defense of killing her husband.
"He was accused of treason and tortured to death. After that, the court ruled that the charge was not confirmed. Who is responsible for this?
My financial situation is difficult. We don"t have an apartment, we lost our breadwinner, I have a young child who has a heart disease from the stresses and is forced to live at the expense of medicines," she says.
The widow of another officer, Sahib Gafarov, Natafan Gafarova also intends to sue the Ministry of Defense.
"In 2018, the court decided on the innocence of my husband, but we demand compensation and the status of a Martyr for my husband and the allocation of an apartment to us," she said.
* On May 7, 2017, the Prosecutor General"s Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense issued a joint statement exposing a group of military and civilians in the Terter region who collaborated with Armenian intelligence.
During the investigation, dozens of persons were arrested. According to unofficial data, 8 people were tortured to death during the investigation, but later 4 of them were acquitted by the court for lack of evidence of their guilt.
According to unofficial data, the investigators and military personnel who falsified the charges and tortured the arrested were sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment.
However, the authorities still have not disclosed the details of this case, or assessed what happened. -06D--
